Inserting data from form to Sharepoint takes forever!

I've been asked to move our Access backend to Sharepoint, so I've done this
and our list has about 9k records.

It all works, but when using the Access front end, and inserting a record
it takes a long time for the insert to complete. Anywhere from 20-30
seconds.

Is this normal with how Access and Sharepoint work together?

If I insert a record via the browser it only takes a couple seconds.

Just an idle question: who "asked" you to, and why? That seems an unusual
request to make if the "asker" did not, as seems to be the case, have any
idea of the impact of the change.

I have, elsewhere, read this expressed somewhat less politely.

Performance depends on many factors, including the versions of the products,
but you need to be aware that SharePoint is NOT a database, but a
collaboration product and it was not designed with Access front ends in
mind. Until/unless performance with Access becomes a marketing and
management priority for the Access and SharePoint product groups,
improvements are likely to be gradual. On the other hand, I can assure you
that the Microsoft Access product group is _acutely aware_ that "performance
is an issue" to their customer constituency.
