Inserting an excel file into frontpage 2003

Does anyone know how to insert a spreadsheet (excel file) into frontpage ?

I know in frontpage 2002 and before you could go to insert file and it would
work but when I try this in frontpage 2003 it does not work saying it cannot
find a file and gives the location of a file in the "tempory internet files"
folder.

Thanks

If you simply want to display the information in an Excel spreadsheet, you
can do a "Save As.." in Excel and save the workbook as a web page (e.g.,
wkbk.html). If you want to allow users to open and save an Ecel spreadsheet,
import the xls file into your web and link to that file. HTH

thanks but for our purposes it has to be done from frontpage not excel, we
used the insert file in the past and was wondering why it wasnt working in
2003, I know if we have to we could copy and paste from excel but would have
preferred the insert file method.

In 2003 the best way is "Save as. " like Dan mentioned.

You really don't want to cut and paste from Excel to FrontPage.

Thanks for that, it was for a guide on using frontpage so was trying to keep
everything using frontpage but if thats the best way I will go with that. It
was just strange that it worked fine in earlier versions of frontpage and now
doesnt.

in any case for anyone to view the xls file they would need Excel. You
can't embed it in html files.
There is a excel plugin in Frontpage; (but doesn't allow editing), and this
still requires the user to have the Excel viewer or to be a licenced user of
MS Excel.

why not write your 'guide for using frontpage" in MS word or in Frontpage
direct rather than in a spreadsheet?

What I meant is that we write a guide telling people how to use frontpage and
one of the topics covered in past guides was inserting files and an excel one
is used to show how it is converted to a table. When we tried this in
frontpage 2003 it came up with an error.

What's all the fuss about? You can import Excel files directly into a
Front Page page as a table easily - without first converting it to html
from Excel.

1. File > New > Blank page
2. Insert > File
3. In the drop-down box for files of type, select "Microsoft Excel
Worksheet (xls)"
4. Select your file on your computer and click on Open.

FP will then convert it to html and put it on your new page.

Steve H

Yeah, *only* if you have the damn "converter" installed!

Andrew,

Watching the frustrating responses to your enquiry, I regret I can't help --
but perhaps you could help me?

In FrontPage 2003, when I try to File/Insert an Excel worksheet, Excel files
don't appear as an option in the 'Files of Type' list.

You mentioned a 'converter' -- so I downloaded and installed the latest MS
Converter Pack for Office. That made no difference.

Do you know of another converter which will cause Excel to appear in my
drop-down 'Files of Type' list when inserting Excel files into a page within
Frontpage 2003?

And yes, Excel is installed on my PC as part of Office 2003.

Thanks,

You do not Insert .xls files in a web page
In you FP web
You can File Import the .xls and drag it on a page to create a link to it
or in Excel save as html and File Import it
or paste the range from Excel into a page as a table
Or use Insert Web Components - Spreadsheets
