Inserting a wmv file

Rookie @ PPT

When I try to insert a movie file I go to insert, Movie and Media clips are
shadowed as not available. This is for 2007 student and home. In 2003 it
doesnt work either. PLz help. Probably something simple but can't figure it
out.
 
Just a first check ...

Are you in Normal View? (View > Normal)
In the left hand pane is one of the slide thumbnails highlighted and active?
