Imbeding a .wmv file in a .ppt presentation

I'm having trouble imbedding a 6:29 minute .wmv video into my PowerPoint
presentation. When I insert the file (Insert>Movies and Sounds>Movie from
File) and select the custom annimation choice "Start with Previous" (so that
it immediately runs when the slide opens) the audio portion of the file runs
fine, but I am unable to see the video beyond its very first frame!?! The
audio portion contiues along fine, but he video portion is frozen on that
first frame and never advances. The .wmv file audio and video run perfectly
well together in Windows Media Player. I'm running on XP PRO SP3 and using
PowerPoint 2003 (11.8227.8221) SP3. Can anyone help me to get the video
portion of this file to run in my PowerPoint presentation? Thanks so much!

Move the presentaiton and the video to a folder with a short path. Example
"C:\Test" Delete the video from the presentation and reinsert it from the
new location.

I moved the presentation to a short path folder. I moved the video clip to
another short path folder. I deleted the video clip from the presentation in
the short path folder and added it back in, but this time from the short path
video folder. When I run the presentation I get great audio and now NO video
whatsoever - just a black window, not even the first frame. Can you or
anyone offer any other suggestions as to why this is not working as it
should? Thanks.

Bob, have you tried using PFCPro to insert the video and make it PowerPoint
friendly? www.playsforcertain.com

It costs you zero to give it a test drive.

Well, here's the update. I've downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack, AVS4YOU,
Movavi Video Converter 6 and PFCPro. K-Lite doesn't seem to offer me the
opportunity to convert my .wmv file to .avi. It seems like it's just another
media player but not a video converter. Both AVS4YOU and Movavi will allow
me to convert the .wmv file to other formats. I've converted it in both
applications to .avi files and the .avi files from both applications imbed
into and run perfectly in my PowerPoint presentation. The only problem is
that they are both watermarked as trial versions of the application and they
require me to purchase the application to get rid of the watermark. I may
have to end up doing this, but for just this one PowerPoint presentation, it
seems expensive just for this one use. PFCPro is not downloading
successfully for me. I'll uninstall whatever came through and try it again.
It offers a two week trial without watermarks, which would be great for my
one-time use if it works, but, of course, it has to successfully download
first!

Is there any explanation why the .wmv file won't load up correctly in the
first place???

Here's the updated update. I've successfully downloaded the PFCPro software
(and the several others it requires to work), and I can call up my video into
the editing window using the PFCPro>Insert Media>Media From File dropdown
menu on my PowerPoint menu bar. But when I've configured it and click on
Finish\Insert, another window labeled PFCPro Dual Pass Process opens up and
plays the video on top of the slide on which I want it to imbed and under the
Media From File work panel. But it never "attaches" to my slide where I want
it to run!?! What am I doing wrong?

It seems I'm finding my own way here, and that's just fine. I read the
online Help files which told me that the application runs through the video
clip twice and then automatically closes up everything and imbeds it into the
slide. So I went back to my presentation, called up the video clip and then
waited patiently as I watched it do just that. All I did in the end was
reposition the black placeholder on my slice. And all works great -- audio
and video! Thanks for this suggestion. Now I'll be puzzled as to which one
to purchase when I get ready to buy one of these video converters. Thanks,
everyone, for your suggestions and help on this!
