Inserting a jpg image in the middle of a 2-column text file?

I want to insert a .jpg image into a Word file where the text flows in two
columns. In particular, I want the image to be inserted in the middle of the
page so that text flows around on both sides of the image. Any advice?

Graphics in Word have various "text wrapping" settings, which you can choose
from the Picture toolbar when the graphic is selected. Choose either the
Square or the Tight wrapping (for a rectangular picture these are
equivalent). Then drag the picture to the location you want, which can
straddle the column separation.

To be more exact in placement, select Format > Picture > Layout > Advanced
and set the horizontal alignment (and maybe the vertical alignment as well)
to Centered relative to Page.
