Inserting a checkbox makes Excel "Hang"

S

Steve Mitchell

I am having a problem with inserting a checkbox into a
spreadsheet.
Using the controls toolbox I can insert a checkbox into a
blank worksheet and then link that checkbox to another
cell in the worksheet. The linked cell will then
display "TRUE" or "FALSE" depending on the status of the
checkbox. My problem is that when clicking the checkbox,
the computer will hang for a few seconds (up to 10) before
accepting the change.

I am currently running Excel 2000 on Windows 98 2nd
Edition on a Compaq P4 Evo computer.

What is unusal is that when performing the same task on a
Compaq P3 with the same configuration (Excel 2000 &
Windows 98) it works fine.

As I'm trying to develop a spreadsheet that uses mutliple
checkboxes & multiple dropdown boxes, this is very
frustrating. Could it be anything to do with missing
Service Packs?

Can anyone help?

Hi,

Maybe clearing out your WINDOWS\TEMP folder helps.

Controls on sheets cause Excel to add temporary files,
which are poorly cleaned up.
