Insert Symbols in Windows Mail

Windows Mail - Vista Ultimate

In Outlook, you could insert a symbol (dollar sign etc), but in Vista's
Windows Mail you cannot, very annoying having to put say "E" instead of the
"Euro" sign. help says, open FONTS, click on character map, this is not in
Fonts. The only way to get the character map is to click on help, then the
green arrow, then you can insert a symbol. What a long way around.
Why cannot "insert a symbol" be as it was in Outlook, at the top, under INSERT
Microsoft need to sort out the problem ASAP.
Or have I got it wrong, and insert a symbol is at the top, but where?

THANK FOR YOUR REPLY, very helpful

BUT, and its a big BUT, Microsoft should put back the INSERT SYMBOL into
Windows Mail, as it is in Outlook, I do not want to have to keep remembering
keystrokes

Remember, Windows Mail replaces Outlook Express, not Outlook.

Outlook is a much more robust email/calendar/task manager application.
Outlook also can use Word as the email editor, which is where you probably
saw the Insert Symbol function.
