Insert picture problem

When I try to insert picture into excel or word (xp) and hit the down arrow
to choose other than the default directory, the program hangs up.
 
That sounds like a Windows problem, but it could be an Office problem. At
any rate, this is an MS-Access database newsgroup. You may get a good answer
in a group for the product you are having difficulty with.
