Insert -> Picture -> From File greyed out

I'm using Word 2003 and have been able to use Insert -> Picture ->
From File for ages, but suddenly today From File is greyed out as an
option. I've rung the help desk and they don't have a clue, I've
tried resetting the location for Clip Art (since that seems to be the
default location used by From File) but nothing seems to have fixed
it.

Any suggestions?

I fixed it by the usual method - when all else fails, search for and
destroy all local copies of normal.dot.
