insert new line unless on new page

Hello again,

I am using a line between paragraphs to indicate a new paragraph. My
problem is I don't want to insert a new line if the paragraph starts on a new
page. Then I just have a blank line at the top of my page.

Is there an easy way to set the new line function to enter a new line unless
it's at the top of a new page.

Thanks,

Larry

_Do not_ use a "new line" (which is really a paragraph mark with no text).
If you want space between paragraphs, use either the Space Before or the
Space After setting in the Format > Paragraph dialog or, preferably, in the
definition of the style applied to the text. Most people use Space After
rather than Space Before in body text, and add extra Space Before to heading
styles.

Word will automatically suppress the extra space at the top of a page if you
use Space Before, but it won't do anything about a blank paragraph. The use
of blank paragraphs also interferes with the Keep With Next attribute in
heading styles, and there are other reasons to avoid them.

To make sure Word does its job in certain special situations, you should go
to Tools > Options > Compatibility and check the option "Suppress Space
Before after a hard page or column break".

Good thing you read this one correctly as meaning an empty paragraph; I
thought Larry was inserting a literal line (like a border) between
paragraphs and couldn't imagine why!
