Hello,

Does anybody know how to insert a file name and path in
the footer or body of a Microsoft Word document.

Thanks in advance,

In Word 2003, Insert Field, choose the FileName field and check the box for "add path to filename".

In Word 2002 there I can not find the box for "add path to
filename". I was able to get to, "Insert Field, choose the
FileName field." However, from here I can not get it to
insert the file path. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Insert>Field. Click on FileName. The field Description in the dialog now
reads "FILENAME". From here, two ways to do same thing:

1. Put cursor at end of description and type "\p", making sure it is
separated from "FILENAME" by a space, and click OK.
2. Click "Options..." button, Field Specific Switches tab, select "\p"
switch if not already selected, click "Add to Field, OK, OK.

I'm guessing you didn't click at all on "Filename" in the field list, or you double-clicked it. If you click *once* on "Filename" in the field list, then you will see the "Add path to filename" option box appear.

Insert | AutoText | Header and Footer: Filename and path. In the
header/footer pane, use the "Filename and path" entry on the AutoText menu.

After I add the "\p" switch to the "filename" and
click "OK," the only thing I get is the name of the
document inseted into the word document and not the file
path. Can somebody please help?

I have tried all of the techniques listed in the thread. I
even tried to use F9 to update. The only thing that
happens is the documents name is inserted in the documnet
and not the file path. AGGH!

I take it this is a *saved* document. There is no path to be added until the
document is saved. After that, the {Filename /p} will display the name *and*
path. If you add it before saving the document, then the field will need to
be updated before it will reflect the change.
