System was working great. Shut it down to have lunch. Restart system and freezes after the MS pasture background is shown before desktop is poulated with short cut icons. Did attempt a restore to last stable configuration. Attempted new start with same results. Put Windows XP Pro CD disk in tray and attempted a restart, used restore option, no luck as it saw the non-functional state as the restore point. Next tried a reinstall of XP from CD

Now operating system functions OK but the application programs now refuse to run stating that certain XXXX.dll files cannot be found. I did a search for each so-called missing XXXX.dll files and found all of them.

How can I get the application programs back up and functional?

Hi Mike,

See if this helps, even though you mention .dll's

EXE and LNK Fix for Windows XP - Line 12 and Line 324 (right hand side)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

If you did a New Install on top of the old, you have created a new
registry, without any of the entries for your applications made when
they were installed. Unless you have a backup of the old registry you
will have to reinstall each of them.

For future reference - it is better to try a Repair Installation before
committing to a new install

If you *do* do a New install, go the whole hog and make sure you hit ESC
and delete the old partition for a really clean start

Use the F A S T wizard to bring old settings forward - read Gary
Woodruff`s article on Files and settings Transfer at
