initialize failure

I was working on IE normally when it killed on me, and since have not been
able to open IE at all. This is the error I get.

IEXPLORE.EXE - Application Error : The application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I don't know how else to fix this error, not much on the net about it for
Internet Explorer. I have tried to re-install, and done spyware, adware runs,
and Hijack, but haven't figured it out yet. Any help is welcomed. Thanks.

I have this problem with a machine and it is a win 2k box. In safe
mode it works, but that doesnt do me much good.

Reinstalling IE fixed it. Go to c:/winnt/inf/ and right click on
ie.inf and click install. This should force an IE reinstall and at
least in my case fixed the issue. You will need the install cd and the
service pack files if you performed any service packs on it.

BTW I found this fix here :

Well I somehow had to re-format my entire system, for some odd reason it just
decided to kill itself, which is somewhat okay with me since I didn't like
the original boot I got when I bought a new HD a few weeks ago, things were
laggy, and missing. So if a sense this helped lol. Thanks for the input.

when you use this fix, it restores to an unpatched version of ie. when
you try to run the SP1 patch on this version, the error reappears.
