Inherriting a Website

I will be inheriting a website and I want to know what information I will
need to get the files to my desktop. I've read that I should not import but
instead I should publish to my computer.

If I get the logon and password, will I be able to do this with FP2003 with
out knowing who is hosting the site? If so, what is the best procedure?
I'm assuming the current site uses FP Ext & I'm running extensions on my
computer too.

Joey: Go File/Open Web and type in login id and password, then publish to
folder on your computer.

I don't see a File | Open Web?
You mean File | Open Site? If so, I don't have the option for login and
password.

prompted for info.

That did not work, however, It appears that File | Open does work. I did
not realized that you open an html file and it would prompt you.

Do not use File Open (that just opens a page not a site)
IF the server has the FP SE, use File Open Site and enter the full URL as
http://www.yoursite.com/
If you get an error also try to browse to the site home page in IE and use File Edit w/ FP
- If you do not get a user log in dialog the site either does not have the FP SE or the SE may be broken on the site

Hi Joey,

The answer to your question depends upon whether or not the existing web site is a FP Extended site. It it is then you can open it
usng FP then publishing it down to your local HD and work with it there. See

You should have 2 options. File/Open and File/Open Web. You need to choose Open Web

Then in the Open To box you need to manually type in the FULL web address to the site ("http://www.whatever.com"

Then it should prompt you for the username and password

Once you get in, go to File Publish and dump it to somewhere on yoru hard drive. Then you can close that web and open the local one and should be business as usual
