infrared

my motherboard has infrared on it, i have install the
cable and it shows as working in control panel.
when i put the phone in front of the computer a icon
appears on the taskbar so i know it works.
the problem is no software(i have tried three) can find
the phone, they all seem only to check com ports(and no
option to change and i know they work with irda)....do i
have to assign a com port to the irda?
if so how?

i have 3 pieces of software, one that came with the phone
and 2 others that i know should work and none can find
the phone
