infra red not detecting older phones

Ross

I can detect my Nokia 6600 phone straight away on infra
red using a Dell D600 laptop. When using older phones such
as a Nokia 6310i or Nokia 8210, the phones are detected
very slowly or not at all. I appreciate this may be a
hardware issue, are there any infra red software issues I
should be aware of.

Is there an compatibility issue, due to infra red port
standards? Thanks.

Hi Ross,

As far as I am aware, IR is IR, there are no variants, its the protocol
that runs on the IR. I have a Nokia 6230 and could not get it to work using
the built in applications of a Windows XP system with an IR port, I think
this is due to differences of the protocol. One thing you could do is
locate other "IRDA" software on the net to use with your mobile and laptop,
such as Oxygen Phone Manager, this *may* or may *not* work, I have no idea.
But don't reply on built in softtware because it's crap!

BTW. What is your IR adapter? Is it a USB attachment? If so did it come
with sofware?

Nick.
