Recently, I started hearing the Windows sound normally associated with
the Information Bar (activation or access?). The bar itself would
briefly flicker when I would hear this annoying sound/tone, every
several minutes or so. To relieve, I set : Control Panel -> Sounds &
Audio Device Properties -> Windows Explorer -> Information Bar , and
finally deselected Windows XP Information Bar.Wav and selected
Nothing. Obviously, though relieved, I've not really solved the
underlying problem. Anyone shed some light on this & thanks ? ....

Launch Internet Explorer and from the Toolbar select:
Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings.
Uncheck both boxes under "Notifications and Filter Level"
and click Close.

Thanks, that seems to do it, but am I sacrificing something essential
by un checking those items ? ....

Oooops, spoke (or posted) too soon.

With my fix off & boxes un checked, still got the sound again after a
time.

Went back to what I tried before and OK so far ...
