Infopath and Access

Cranky One

I've read a little about Infopath - it looks like the forms used in Infopath
can be used as Access forms. Is this true? I cannot find an Infopath
newsgroup.

Short answer, no. InfoPath forms, as powerful as they can be, are very light
weight compared to Access forms.

InfoPath forms can certainly be used to collect data and save it in XML
format that can then be imported into Access. A replacement for Access
forms, certainly not. A data collection alternative for people without
Access, possibly.

I still prefer Excel for data collection when someone doesn't have Access.
Most people that don't have Access, at least have Office Standard, meaning
they have Excel. Unless you have an Office Enterprise license, you have to
buy InfoPath as a separate product that I don't see many people doing. And
if you have an Office Enterprise license, then you have Access.

Finding groups for Microsoft products on the msnews.microsoft.com server
isn't that tough. Just like this Access group is microsoft.public.access,
the InfoPath group is simply: microsoft.public.infopath

There is also a lot of information, articles, and templates for InfoPath at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010857921033.aspx.

Good luck.

InfoPath forms are very good for data validation, and its structure is more
flexible than Access or Excel.
