Infected Backup Drive System Volumne

I've tried multiple times to remove a trojan from the system volume
information on my 80 GB IDE backup drive (D:). I've turned off the system
restore several times but it refuses to go away. I also tried the safe mode
with my sys restore off. I do realize that the trojan is benign as far as
causing any problem form where it is. My operating sytem drive is clean
after the sys restore off and on again cycled the old info off my drive
(with the trojans along with it). The frustration comes form not being able
to feel in control of that issue remaining on my backup drive. Is it
possible to delete that volumne info from a reboot with command prompt? I
see no sys volume info form the windows command prompt but wonder if it
might be possible on a reboot. Thanks for any sugestion.

Excellent advice - the safe mode worked like a charm. It's another good day
...I learned something. Much thanks Brian
