Ineffective for persistent spyware

P

Pat

A program completely took over my computer to where I was
unable to do something as simple as go into I.E. and
change my preferred current home page. Although the MS
Beta program caught the fact that the program was trying
to change my home page and asked me if I wanted it
changed, it was unable to prevent it from being changed
even though I told it I did not want a change made. I
even tried blocking the web address and clearing the
cookies/temporary internet files but the web address kept
coming up anyway. In order to finally get control back of
my computer, I had to run the system restore. Once that
completed, there has since been no evidence that the
problem still existed.

If you run into something like this again, use Tools, Suspected Spyware
Report to get details about your system to the Spynet Community for help.

If you did a System Restore to a date before the Spyware infection existed,
then it is, indeed, as though the problem never existed.

Please reinstall Microsoft Antispyware and check at WindowsUpdate tomorrow
afternoon for any critical patches for your OS.

The real-time protection agents in Microsoft Antispyware should prevent a
reinfection with this kind of bug, and can also ease recovery.
