Isn't the indexing service used primarily on servers? Should this service
be enabled on a home PC? The only searching I can think of that my computer
may do, is at the OS level. I occasionally search for files that are not
used very much. Thanks

I use indexing service as i believe it may help with desktop search.

I also use in the main two login on XP pro (one admin and one limited user)

Judging by the disk thrashing that goes on it gives an impression that
every time I switch user an indexing operation is initiated.

And of course there are the associated slowdowns when such (appears) to
take place.

Indexing service - IMO - will do more to slow down your computer than
it will to speed up your searches.
