Description:

Index.dat Suite is a rather unique program that allows you not only to
delete the index.dat files, temporary internet files, temp files, cookies
and history, but it also allows you to view the index.dat files on your
system.

The ability to view these files was only added in v2.0 after we decided we
did not like having to use ad-ware/spyware programs to do it, nor did we
like going through the files manually.

Index.dat Suite's current features include;

.: View index.dat files
.: Delete index.dat files
.: View and delete Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
.: View and delete Cookies
.: View and delete History
.: View and delete Temp files
.: View and delete Recent Documents
.: Auto-generation of batch file to assist in deleting the index.dat
files in DOS.
.: Optional add to RunOnce registry key
.: Optional deletion of swap file (9x users only)
.: Optional defrag after file deletion
.: Full application logging

Updates:

.: Removed: FileSystemObject dependancy for Index.dat Suite scan (now uses
API)
.: Removed: results.ini dependancy

.: Modified: Update check routine
.: Modified: Settings options, "Save as" box now offers save as dialog (so
you don't need to type the path yourself)
.: Modified: Save Results option (now allows you to select your own
filename)
.: Modified: Save list option (when viewing index.dat files)
.: Modified: Results list (no longer lists "KB" next to the file size, has
it in the column header instead)
.: Modified: Settings dialog will no longer allow you to save the settings
if one or more of the settings boxes are empty

.: Fixed: Listview resize bug
.: Fixed: "Runtime error 13 - Type Mismatch" error when pressing "Find" (no
longer uses the scripting engine)
.: Fixed: Re-opening bug (would keep re-opening if the scan of the system
and/or index.dat file had not finished)

.: Added: Prompt on exit (prompts only if scan of your system or index.dat
file, is still running)
.: Added: "Wizard" dialog
.: Added: Custom folders with filters (allows you to set folders with
filters, that you would like to include in the generated file)

.: Other minor bug fixes/GUI changes/modifications

Installation:

Full/Basic install: Run Setup.exe

Update: Open Index.dat Suite program folder and copy IDSuite.exe to the
backup folder

Extract IDSuite.exe to the Index.dat Suite program folder

Manual (No-install): Extract IDSuite.exe to a location of your choice.

Uninstallation:

Full/Basic Install: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Update: Open the Index.dat Suite program folder, delete idsuite.exe then
copy idsuite.exe from the backup folder (if it exists) to the main program
folder.

Known Issues:

Users that do not have Windows Script 5.6 will still receive errors if
they try to use certain parts of the program.
Sort by size bug still present (can't seem to locate the cause of the
problem)

Updates planned:

Include "date last visited" for URL's found (requested)
Completely remove FileSystemObject (Windows Script) dependancy (still
used in parts of the program)
Sort results by size (still a bug in that one)
Save custom folders (at present, you'll need to add them each time you
generate the file)
Extra custom folders (at present, you will only be able to include
custom folders if you use the wizard option)
View swap file contents (for 9x based systems)
Include pagefile.sys in deletion options (for NT based systems)
View pagefile.sys contents (for NT based systems)

... + ideas I've possibly not thought of yet

Notes:

I've removed the majority of the dependancy on FSO (FileSystemObject) in an
attempt to both make things quicker, and to allow people to use it without
having to install Windows Script first (though this is still required for
parts of the program at present, and the version installed must be 5.6 or
higher).

Hi Steve I just want to thank you for this program. When I first
bought my computer with Win XP. I was surprised that it was so hard to
remove the Index.dat files. Until I found your program, I had googled
all over the place to find a program that removed those Index.dat
files in Win XP. In Win 98 it was no problem to remove them... So I
was really glad to have found your program for Win XP.. Thanks again.
:)

Cheers...

Steve, I also use and applaud your software! I do have one question,
however, and perhaps I'm not using it correctly. I'm running it on Win
XP Pro SP1, and although all the index.dat files appear in the batch
file, not all are deleted when it runs on reboot. Am I missing something
here?

Thanks so much!

When you mention not all were deleted, which one's were you referring to as
not being deleted?

Wow, thanks for your quick response! I don't have a record of it now,
but I know it's repeatable. I'll run it again and post the results in
response.

Steve, I ran the scan index.dat Suite, selected all entries and created
the batch file. I rebooted, then ran the scan again to capture the file
names that were still there. I also repeated the same process rebooting
into Safe Mode. The list of files below was copied from the scan after
rebooting.

The file's you've listed look like the one's Windows creates after the
current/old one's are deleted?. (as Windows requires them, blank copies of
the index.dat file's are re-created after the batch file deletes your
current/old one's with file sizes similar to the one's you've listed).

Thanks, Steve. I just viewed each of the files and they are all empty.
Guess I wasn't thinking hard enough! :)

So is it alright to 'delete' all of the index.dat's that occur on the
list? Does one have to pick and choose?

All of the index.dat file's can be safely deleted. The option to exclude
selected one's was only added as it was requested.

Ah. Thanks! (I realize the needed ones will be recreated upon boot).
