Which index.dat file did you have in mind? There are 32 of them on my
machine. How many you have will depend on your Windwos version and number
of defined users. In Win 2K and XP at least, Windows Explorer also writes
to these files. It's possible that other programs could write to them as
well, but they'd have to go through the operating system to do it.
