Indents bullets fonts headers footers functionality in Word is awf

I'm a relatively advanced user in both Word and Wordperfect; and Wordperfect
is by far easier to format documents, epecially in working with bullets,
fonts, headers, and footers. For example, a simple backspace shouldn't change
the font of an entire paragraph! Word has got to be the worst program on my
computer (while Excel and PPT are pretty good). I have wasted countless hours
on formatting in Word. When is Microsoft going to bring Word up to par with
WP on ALL formatting functions?

Yes...you would think Bill would have completely emulated
WordPerfect by now since he's done that with most other
programs. Guess it doesn't matter when you're number 1
with no forseeable contenders.

When you two have a specific question, we'll be happy to try to answer it,
but if you want to ask questions about numbering, a better venue is
microsoft.public.word.numbering.

Your complaint arises from the fact that Word operates completely
differently from WordPerfect, and couldn't emulate it if it tried, because
the basic structure is very different. This links give a little explanation
of why:

I you are a relatively advanced user, you should not have any problems with
formatting, which is pretty basic stuff for an advanced user. I know I do
not have problems formatting bullets and numbers.

? This has never happened to me. How did you manage that?
One way I can see that happen is if you backspace to remove a paragraph
return (¶) and the 2 paragraphs that were separated by the said ¶ were
formatted with different styles. Since the ¶ carries the paragraph style
information, removing it can cause surprises. Same thing with section
breaks... removing them without paying attention can really mess up a
document.
But of course, as an advanced user you probably never make that mistake! <g,

See Daiya's comments on that.
