A friend, who recently got rid of the trojan.sinteri virus on his computer
now has an odd thing happening. It also happened to me while I was working
on his PC yesterday. When invoking Incredimail, his monitor menu pops up in
the middle of the screen !!! i.e. the monitor menu that's invoked by
pressing the plastic "dial" type knob/spinwheel on the plastic monitor
housing. Surely this can't be anything to do with graphics drivers ?
....surely that's a ROM program on a chip in the monitor !
....though he did just report to me on the 'phone that Windows Solitaire is
grindingly slow.

Suggestions gratefully received.
TIA

regards, richard

It will be impossible for us to troubleshoot your friend's computer with
third-hand fuzzy information. Either have your friend make his own post
here *after* reading the information at the link below OR have your
friend take his machine to a professional computer repair shop.

You may have "got rid of the trojan.sinteri virus", however
damage already caused by the virus is often non-recoverable.

A virus attack mandates a complete "clean install".
Why? Read the following:

Well, quite why I'm bothering to reply to your stupid response eludes me.
There was nothing "third hand" or "fuzzy," in my post, though it would be
accurate to describe your answer as useless, unhelpful and woefully
inadequate !
Why bother to post a response if you've got nothing useful to suggest ?

What possible extra information would have been of use when asking the
question, in as many words, "Has anyone ever started program running that
caused the monitor menu to pop up?" This is also asking, in as many words,
Does anyone have any knowledge or information, or, is it possible, for
application software - or anything in the Windows XP platform to cause the
monitor menu to appear ? I know that there is some interaction between XP
and monitor hardware in bios/DPMS but, know little about it. Perhaps
someone in here might know something about it - which is why I posted.

I posted in the, (possibly remote), hope that somebody in here had come
across a similar symptom. Obviously you haven't, so why try to be clever
with nothing to suggest or contribute?

I've read you in the NG's across the years, and often you've got something
useful to say, perhaps you're having an off day !

Even if you remove viruses/trojans. The damage they cause often still
remains. Best bet in the future is NOT to install viruses/trojans for
best results.

Isn't Incredimail a virus or trojan?
;-)

I've told him time and time again that Incredimail is a heap of **** but,
apparantly he likes all the bells and whistles that it provides !
