Incorrect Target for Favorites

I don't know how but the "My Favorites" folder now points to another computer
on my small office peer to peer network. Whilst right clicking on "My
Documents" allows me to change the target folder, this option is not
available on "Favorites". Can someone tell me how to change the target for
this folder? Your help would be apprciated. Regards, Phil

Hi Arpeggio,

Simply "cut" (the favorites folder in the network drive) and "paste" it into
your user profile folder (%userprofile%\favorites). This is a 'move'
operation will automatically relocate the shell folder references in the
registry.

To do this via the registry directly, see the following URL:

Reset the Shell Folders paths to defaults:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/usershellfolders.htm

Ramesh,

Thanks for your response. I was able to move the folder around but it always
pointed to the network drive. I tried using regedit but it seemed to go back
to the original settings. However your link enabled me to download TweakUI
and that utility has enabled me to change back to the normal default settings.

As a matter of interest the registry doesn't show %USERPROFILE%\Favorites
but shows the actual path. This is the same for all of the system folders.
Is that correct? Many thanks, Phil

Phil,

Did you alter the correct key? "Shell folders" and "User Shell folders" -
although both of them store the shell folder location, you need to modify
the latter.

Yes. As long as it points to the correct folder, no problem. If you want to
reset the values to default (REG_EXPAND_SZ) format, you may use the REG file
in my site.
