Incorrect Font Associated with Bold Button on Toolbar

I am running Windows XP Home with MS Office (Excel 2002). All security patchs
and upgrades are current. At some point after one of the patches or
upgrades, the BOLD button on the toolbar changes the font to BOLD-ITALIC
instead of just Bold. This appears to be true of all fonts although I have
only tried a few. Any known solutions?
 
Try this...............

Tools>Customize>Toolbars.

Select Formatting Toolbar and "Reset"

Any change?

Resetting the formatting of the tool bar to the defaults did not work.
