inconsistant page numbers

I'm trying to add page numbers to a document given to me by a client. I can
manage to get number 1 through to number 11 but where it should be number 12
it says number 13. In other words there seems to be an invisable page 12.
Can anyone help - it's driving me around the bend, especially as I don't
really know my way around Microsoft Word.
 
Hi, Vic. Likely, you've got a section break at the end of the content on
page 11. See if the section number changes (bottom left, on the status bar)
when you click from page 11 to 12. If so, hit View-->Header and Footer, then
hit the Format Page Number button on the H/F toolbar, and tell it to
continue from previous. If that doesn't apply, then click the Layout button
on the H/F toolbar and turn OFF odd/even pages.
