Incompattability Issue.

Hi All,

I have a PC which use DDR ram and have recently bought 1gig of memory for an
upgrade. However when i take out the old memory chips insert the new ones and
boot up machine i get the beep messages which suggests that the newly
installed chips are incompatable with the machine. I have doubled checked and
the machine uses DDR and the replacement ram is DDR.

Is there another explanation why this machine will not boot up after
changing to the new RAM?

All memory is not neccessarily equal
In order to ensure compatibility, of memory, on your sys you should use one
of the configerators on the major memory manu web sites. eg www.crucial.com
being one
or use the info supplied on your mobo web site, for tested memory.
It can also be the case, sometimes, that the bios needs updating

Hi DL,

Thanks for the reply...

Is there a command i can use that will allow me to check on the mobo make
rather than taking the computer apart?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I replaced 2x256 Mb Pc2700s with 2x512 Pc3200 not losing
dual inline linear capability.
Here is what I did. For memory upgrade to HP desktop,
in www.hp.com, searched HpM370n Specification, returns: Hardwarne Processor
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Hyper-Threading 800 MHz Front side Socket mPGA478
Motherboard Spec ASUS P4SD without on-board graphics: Memory Comes with two
256MB (512MB total) PC2700 or better dual-inline Memory Modules. Motherboard
accepts DDR400/PC3200, DDR333/PC2700, or DDR266/PC2100 Dimms. Dual Channel
supported only when identical pairs are used. Motherboard contains four
memory sockets in two pairs (sockets 1:3, and 2:4).
At Hp.com, there is a movie showing how to do memory change.

It would be impossible to insert incorrect RAM [SDRAM /DDR RAM] however
you should know there are differences in DDR 1 &2, check your
system board manual for the correct type and speed.[266~400 etc]
