Incoming IP traffic

Hello, I cannot get a reply from a remote laptop, yet running ipconfig on
that laptop confirms that it is leased a valid IP address by the DHCP server,
that the DNS, Primary and Secondary server addresses are all correctly
listed. Also, this laptop can ping out to remote systems. The laptop was also
moved to other offices, locally and in another part of the country, connected
to the same WAN and still could not get a reply from it. I also tried
assigning it a Static IP address. If we run it in Safe Mode I can then ping
it successfully. Thanks.

Regards,

Randy

Hi Phillip, sorry is there a firewall that comes with Windows 2000 SP4? To my
knowledge, the user does not have a firewall installed (although I am not
100% convinced that this is so - do you know a quick way to determine if in
fact one is installed - we did not see anything 'suspicious' in Add/Remove
Programs). Thanks.

Regards,

Randy

You didn't indicate what OS you were running,...so I had to guess.
MS does not supply one for 2000, but that doesn't rule out a third party
product.

Not off the top of my head. There is nothing to go on here. I could be
tossing out wild guesses for the rest of the week and still be wrong on all
of them.

Spyware interferring with the networking functions could also be a
possibility. The spyware might not startup in SafeMode so things work in
SafeMode,....just another wild guess.
