Incoming HTML msg is converted to Plain Txt ?

This happens on a few systems, I think since Office SP2 was installed.
A new message comes in and should be HTML but Outlook converts it to Plain
Txt yet on the info bar on top where one usually sees "Line Breaks Removed"
now appreas "message was converted to Plain Text" and if you click on it then
you have the choice of "Display as HTML".
I've found the choice to always display as Plain text but I want outlook to
STOP converting the HTML to plain text for me.
(this happens on some HTML msgs not all - maybe only when outlook has a
problem with the code ???)

Wow, never noticed that. Just tested and so true.
Not perfect since I get so many false-postives in my Junk Mail Folder but
good enough.
If you know of Knowledge Base Article explaining this feature please post.

Thanks

This happens to me as well. It is Outlook 2003 SP2. The messages are
always in the Junk Mail folder, but I wish there was an option to
choose whether or not to convert them to plain text. I understand why
they chose to do this, with children you don't want them to see
pornographic spam.

This isn't a huge issue for me, but every once in a while I get an
email in the junk folder that is not junk, and I'd like to read it
without having to convert it back to HTML.

I have Outlook 2003, SP 2.

The problem I have is mails I am sending out - when some people receive them
(externally), it changes my text to plain text, so any symbols in my
autosignature do not appear etc. Looks very unprofessional.

Thank you

Louise

That's usually a recipient-end issue.

The "Don't turn on links" check box on Actions>Junk E-mail>Junk E-mail
Options may help. Also, moving the message from the Junk E-mail folder to
another mail folder should restore the viewing as HTML.

well that's what I thought but then I changed my mail format to RIch Text
rather than HTML and it seemed to rectify the problem. However, then when I
attached documents to mail I was sending out, it put the attachment icon
within the actual message rather than in the bar at the top with To, Cc etc.,
the same as Office 97 used to do. So, again, making my e-mails look
unprofessional.

My problem is with the copy left in the 'Sent Items' folder - these are
converted to plain text, so on re-reading them, they never appear as they
were sent (in HTML).
I use Outlook 2003 SP2. This seems to have become more of a problem since I
obtained digital certificates for my emails. Is there some problem caused by
digital signing? The emails are not encrypted, since none of my addressees
has bothered to set themselves up with digital IDs.
I could really do with an option that forces Outlook always to work in HTML
(my preference)
(Lots of questions, no answers?)

That doesn't seem likely to me. I don't know of any mechanism that would
cause Outlook to convert messages in the Sent Items folder to Plain Text.
Got a screen shot?

I'm having the same problem. About 33% of my e-mails are showing up in plain
text when they're in html format. When I have to jump through flaming hoops
to figure some software out, I'm pretty confident that there's something
wrong with the software and not me. (Are you listening Microsoft? There's a
lot of e-mails from othere on this BBS with the same complaint!!!

Coincidentally, the emails that display as plain text also show the message
"extra line breaks in this message were removed."

So what gives? Any Ideas?

Thanks

Thanks

Actually, I stand correvted. The received e-ails is in Plain Text and
there's that message that states "extra line breaks in this message were
removed." Thanks

That's easy enough to fix. Click Tools>Options>E-mail Options and uncheck
the box labeled "Remove extra line breaks in plain text messages".

Thanks. That fixed the "extra line breaks" notification which I thought
might be a clue to the plain txt issue but I'm still having the problem with
a third of the received e-mails showing up in plain text, and they're not in
my Junk R-mail folder. Any other settings?

I'm afraid I can't think of the cause of that.

I also experience this issue with a few of my users. Emails that they receive
in their "Inbox" and not to the Junk Mail has all of the HTML setting
stripped. Other users receive the exact same email, like an (E-blast) which
it is properly formatted with HTML.

Users on Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003 SP1. I have done about everything
short of giving the user a new system.

Is the "Read all standard mail in plain text" option on Tools>Options>E-mail
Options selected? Probably not, but I thought I should ask.

Hello Brian,

Thanks for replying to my post.

Yes......that option was selected for some reason. The user swears they did
not enable this option, as this is the second time it has been enabled.
Deselcting it did work as it has in the past.

Do you think that a certain type of email is setting this option? If this
happens again, I might just disable her the ability to go into the Program
Options of outlook.

Over all......... your solution did work, and thanks for asking the
question anyways. Sometimes, the littlest things can trip us up.
