i have windows vista and using windows mail.
when i receive an email, open it and then close it, and then go to another
folder like, "sent" or "junk email" and then go back to my "inbox", the last
email i opened is deleted. system does not ask to delete and the deleted
email is not in my "deleted" folder. how do i fix this.

'View|Current View', make sure you're set to "Show All Messages". If set to
show unread messages, a message will disappear from your Inbox as soon as
it's marked read.

Each mail folder has its own "current view" setting. Go to the Inbox
folder and verify that the current view setting as displayed on the views
bar near the upper right corner says "Show All Messages" instead
of "Hide Read Messages".

Thank you so much! This has been driving me crazy for days! Now, is there a
way to get those 'hidden' emails back?!?

Not sure what you mean. When using the view setting "Show All Messages",
there should not be any hidden emails.

Thanks for your fast reply!
My email settings have evidently switched back and forth a couple
times without my help *smile* as this was the 2nd time that after
reading a couple emails, then went to another open window and then
back to my emails, (never closed email program) and the ones I had
just read were GONE! Nowhere to be found.

Finally I found this thread and then went and changed the setting to
"show all messages" - but my question is this - can I somehow 'find' those
couple emails that disappeared yesterday, when the setting was changed
to 'hide read or ignored messages'?

Messages that are 'hidden' with a Current View setting are not permanently
hidden. When you change that setting from "Hide Read or Ignored Messages"
to "Show All Messages", it will do just that. Previously hidden messages
will then be shown.

Thanks Gary! I hadn't scrolled back far enough, just found it!
I'm so glad to have your help after a frustrating couple of days!
