Incoming email is missing images

when I open an email that contains a jpeg or gif as part of the email (not
attached) the image/s are replaced by small red crosses. This seems to have
started since I last updated windows. Can anyone help?
 
are you sure its not the new Outlook 2003 serurity feature? Can you right
click on the images and select "download pictures"?
