Incoming email is automatically deleted from my mailbox

Recently Outlook 2003 has been deleting incoming mail from my inbox. I see
the mail arrive, but in a second or two it disappears. Mail deleted in this
way is not placed in my deleted mail folder, but I can find it in the "old
mail" box on my email server (AOL). This only affects certain senders (one of
which is my wife--bummer!).

Are you sure you don't have any filters set on your view or are looking at
your mail from the Unread Mail Search Folder?
When an item gets marked as read, it will be removed from those views but it
will not get deleted. Change your view to the Messages view (or reset this
view if you already are) or switch to the Inbox folder instead of using the
Unread Mail Search Folder.

The fact that the messages get removed from the server is because you are
using a POP3 connection and don't have Outlook configured to leave a copy on
the server.

Maybe some confusion here. I have no rules or filters set in Outlook. Mail
IS saved on the server. It is found in the "Old Mail" box on the server,
which is normal because the mail was properly downloaded to my Outlook Inbox.
In other words, everything on the server is functioning correctly. If I am
watching, I see the mail arrive in my Outlook Inbox, but then it almost
immediately disappears, and it is NOT found in my Outlook Deleted items
folder or, as nearly as I can tell, anywhere else in Outlook.

I am using the full version of AVG Internet Security, but I have turned off
email filtering.

BTW, this is Office 2003.

I finally found the problem. The full version of AVG Internet Security added
an anti-spam component, and was placing messages that it identified as spam
into an AVG Spam folder that I hadn't noticed!

Sorry for the misdirected posting, and thanks for any responses.

Seems to me, AOL is access via IMAP. If messages are being moved to "Old
Mail", then either the AOL server is doing it or you have some add-in doing
it. Start Outlook in safe mode (hold Ctrl when you start Outlook) and see if
the same thing happens.
