Inbox - Wrong Number Showing

In Outlook 2003 the numbe rof e-mails in your Inbox is shown as a blue figure
after the label Inbox. However, this has developed to be a fixed number (8)
irrespective of the number actually stored in my Inbox.
Suggestions please for correcting this flaw? Many thanks.

Check the setting by right clicking on the Inbox, choose Properties and make
sure Show Unread Items is selected. MS Exchange View should also be selected.
Make sure you handle/move items in the Inbox and don't allow them to be
stored there.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I had alrady tried this route and it
did not provide a solution. Any other ideas?
