inbox - vanishing content..?

Hi,
I have windows mail on Vista and the whole content of my inbox seems to have
completely vanished. It is not in my deleted items box. This followed the
appearance of a "barcode" type thing on my screen. I have run avast and
cannot detect any other problem.

Any tips appreciated.

View - Current view - Show all messages

While in the Inbox: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages is
checked and nothing else.

If the other suggestions don't help, then its possible your AV or some other program is messing things up. See point 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Also you can search for *.eml and see if you find them (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx for background). And you might consider running my Windows Mail Utility (www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/) to compact and repair the database.

Its necessary to frequently backup your important messages.
