Inbox Repair Tool - need help using

Hi. I recieved at prompt to run the Inbox Repair Tool when Outlook 2007
would not open. When I try to browse to fill in the box "Enter the name of
the file you want to scan", I don't know what to select or type, and I can't
complete the repair. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

You select your PST, naturally. That file is likely to be in
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook on Windows
XP and in
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook on Windows Vista

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate the help. You gave me some code yesterday to
prompt Outlook to alert me if an email is missing its subject and it worked
perfectly. I had my brother in law paste it into my sister's computer.

This new question is for my Husband's computer, which uses Window XP. The
thing is, nothing is natural for me! I'm obviously not that good at IT!!!
(But maybe a little better than my husband.) I still don't understand what to
type or where to go when I browse to fill in the box "Enter the name of the
file you want to scan". I've tried different places in the Office 12 folder,
and I typed in exactly what you wrote after clicking on "SCANPST", but I'm
obviously still not doing it correctly, because I get the message: path does
not exist, type valid path and filename.

Is there any way to tell me in baby steps? Honestly, I don't know what PST
means.

*.pst is the outlook data file, by default named outlook.pst but could be
'anyname'.pst if you renamed it
Its default location is as posted by Brian
You dont have to type anything in the box, when you browse to the location
you simply select the file

"PST" is your Personal Folders file. The path where that file usually is
stored is
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook. This is usually hidden folder. By default Windows
won't show it to you. Nonetheless, you can still type it in the prompt in
SCANPST.

If you want to know the full name of the PST, open Control Panel, click the
User Accounts category, and you should see a "Mail" applet there.
Double-click it and then click the Data Files button. You'll see the PST's
file name there. You can expand the column widths to see the entire name.
That's the name to type into the SCANPST prompt.
