in v 2002 powerpoint how animate an autoshape used as a call out?

How do I animate an autoshape used for call out text in Powerpoint v 2002? I
can animate the title and any scanned JPEG file, but not the auotshape.

Click on the outside edge of the autoshape to select the autoshape, then
click on Slide Show, Custom Animation and add the animation effect for the
shape.

Click on the shape to select it. Then right-click somewhere on the border
of the shape (not in the text) and choose Custom Animation.
