in-place repair installation of XP Home OEM

C

Chris Barnard

Hi,

I have a computer pre-installed with Windows XP that's playing up - it seems
like the only option I have is to attempt the repair option from the Windows
XP Home setup disc. However, I don't have an OEM disc and I need this
computer up-and-running pretty soon - I *do* have the full retail disc but
obviously would want to use the OEM serial number as that's what should be
registered with the computer to keep everything legit. I know that I can't
install the retail with the OEM serial, but can I run the repair from a
retail disc onto an OEM installation without any problems?

No, you cannot repair an OEM version of Windows XP using
a retail CD. You'll need the original OEM CD in order to perform
the repair. Contact your computer manufacturer and request a
replacement CD.
