In Outlook, my signature should have pictures. All I get is the .

box with the red x. Yes, I do allow pictures to auto download. HTML is what
I compose in. Yes, I have checked what I thought would be the Active X level
to allow this.

Is the picture in the same folder as the signature (i.e., the hidden folder
%AppData%\Microsoft\Signatures)?

They weren't. Just copied one in, but still got the box with the x.

I never use pictures of any kind in email (unless the picture is the reason
