In Outlook 2003 how do I do a "receive only" to check incoming be.

Well, I got Outlook 2003 and there still isn't the option to receive email
without having it checked at the same time. I don't want to have to do a
work around, such as storing outgoing in a draft folder. Am I missing
something? This command seems so basic. Thanks all. R. Young

Might try double checking your send/receive settings (ctrl + alt + s) then
the edit button. I believe you will find checkboxes that will help you
setup a "receive" only account.

You can Send without receiving by using the dropdown arrow by Send/receive,
selecting your account and clicking on Inbox.

accounts which I use for both sending and receiving. Ideally I would like to
do a receive only for all my email accounts in one go. Maybe too much to
ask, although it's a snap in Outlook Express.

Just out of curiosity, why do you *not* want to send mail when you download
mail? It would seem to me that if mail isn't ready to be sent, it really
is a draft. If you want to delay its sending to a particular time, there's
always the "do not deliver before" option in View -> Options on the
message.

I don't really like putting things in the drafts folder since I tend to
forget about them. And I may have something that is ready to go out, but I
want to do a last minute check to see if something has been sent to me that
would modify what I am about to send out. I guess I've gotten so used to
doing a quick 'receive only" check that it is now my habit, and I wish it
were as easy to do in Outlook as it is in OE (with the receive all command).
I can always change my habits. Seems like I have encountered others who have
this wish and have lobbied Microsoft to make it a possible, so I don't think
I am alone.

I can give you a great answer as well. I manage approximately 3 e-mail
addresses across about as many domains. Considering I'm connected to one
specific domain about 99.9% percent of the time, I only need a receive only
on 2 accounts. If I end up replying to one of those accounts and due to
some fascist ISPs, I might need to have the particular account/group held
until I'm on the "right" network. The "Receive All" would be a nice
addition for OE to Outlook users since the send/receive groups can be a bit
daunting for the first timer.

Send/receive groups are, by definition, groups of accounts.

I'm playing with the settings, but so far haven't found a way to create a
single group that consists of my four email accounts. If I try to add an
account to a group it bumps out the one that is in there. I'll keep at it.

Tools>Send/Receive>Send/Receive Settings>Define Send/Receive Groups>New
works for me. I defined a new group, giving it the name "Receive-Only", and
clicked OK. Outlook listed all my current accounts (I have several), but
did not include any of them. I simply selected each that I wished to be in
the group and deselected the "Send mail items" (leaving the "Receive mail
items checked toi make them receive-only) for each. I then clicked OK.
Finally, on the Tools menu I clicked Send/Receive>Receive-Only. All my
accounts downloaded without sending a thing.
