Importing Unicode Alphacharacters into Access 97

I suspect Access 2000 (and all subsequent versions) will work better for
you, as it's Unicode compliant.
 
I've noticed certain Unicode characters (i.e., letters
with straight lines under or above) don't translate
correctly when imported into an Access 97 table. I've
tried importing to an existing table where the font
supports Unicode characters (Arial Unicode MS). Also tried
importing to a new table then changing the font to Arial
Unicode. Same results.

Anyone know how to fix this? Is the problem corrected in
Access 2000?
