Importing .txt data into existing spreadsheet without overlaying formulas

greetings - can anybody tell me how to import text data into an
existing spreadsheet without overlaying formulas in some columns?
(need to skip the overlay of those columns that just have formulas
used in calculations from data in other columns)

regards,

I think I'd bring the txt file into a different workbook (using file|Open) and
then copy from there into the real location.

Then close the text file without saving.

Import it into another sheet using File | Open and setting the File
Type to All files *.*. This will take you into the Data Import Wizard,
where you will have control over the format of each column imported.
Then just copy/paste the data from the imported file over to your
other file, as required.

Hope this helps.

booray,

I think your best bet is to use Data - Import External Data. It will import the data into
directly into your sheet, moving the existing columns (containing your formulas) over as
necessary. This presumes all your data will go into contiguous columns -- not interspersed
with existing data.

Data - Import External Data - Import Data. Don't worry about data sources. Navigate to the
folder containing your file, select it and click Open. It will start the import wizard,
where you can select your delimiter (usually a comma), or your field extents if it's a
fixed-field file. You can also set up formatting if necessary in the next step. In the
last step, be sure to point it to the upper left cell where the data is to be placed in your
sheet. Finish. Done. You only have to have set this up once. Now the next time you want
to import new data, right-click in the area where there's imported data, and click Refresh.
Bob's your uncle!
