Importing .pst files from Outlook Express into Vista Microsoft Mai

My old computer crashed and I have the old hard disk on an external drive on
my new computer that has Vista loaded. I can see .pst files on the old drive
but I cannot seem to import them into Microsoft Mail which is on my
replacement computer. I cannot export from the old Outlook Express as I don't
have it loaded. I have tried copying the .pst files into a separate folder on
the new C drive and importing from there, to no avail and the path is
correct. I have also tried importing the .dbx files as has been suggested
before but to no avail either... Help!

Hi, atcbird.

Is it a permission problem? Are you the Administrator, and logged in as
such? Do you have permission to read the files on that folder on the
external disk? You may need to take ownership of that folder.

You mention both Outlook (and .pst files) and Outlook Express. Are you
trying to import from both programs?

You can't import PST files from Outlook Express because Outlook Express does
not use any PST files.

You are both way ahead of me. I am trying to figure out how to move my OE
emails and addresses from my old PC which ran XP to my new one which runs
Vista. Where do I find the .pst files on my old computer? Are the .pst
files the email addresses? Is there a way to transfer over the emails as
well?

Many thanks in advance,
Patricia@Chicago

First of all pst files belong to Outlook which is a part of Microsoft Office.

That said you will need to have Outlook (not OutlookExpress) installed on your computer with the pst files to achieve getting the pst files into Windows Mail. Otherwise it is not possible to get the pst into WM

Steve, thanks for the info. I read what you suggested. Hopefully, I'll be
able to get my email addresses. Thanks. Patricia

Steve - You rock! Thanks! I read everything and I found everything on my
old PC and now I just have to copy it over to this new one! Awesome.
