I want to export my accounts on XP machine to Vista machine but it fails
except for gmail account.
What can be wrong with the iax files?
Moreover where does Vista save the account information since it does not
seem to save in registry?

Sometimes OE does not include the password in IAF files. I'm afraid that I
usually just enter the data because it's easier that exporting, transferring
and importing IAF files.

Do you know where is this information stored, if in Registry or separate
file?
In XP it is in the registry and you can just export the data in registry.

It's stored in the Registry in unreadable form.
If you don't have it written down somewhere (why not?) then telephone the
providers.

What do you mean unreadable form?
Regedit can open and read full registry.
Anyway I have since found out that Live mail can automatically import all
data
and I am giving up on vista mail.
Do you know how to uninstall Vista mail?

Some programs store some things in an encoded form that Regedit can't
read.

Windows Mail is a part of Vista and very hard to uninstall without doing
the same to the rest of Vista. However, you can keep it from doing much
if you start it by removing all the accounts under it. You can also make it
hard to start by deleting any shortcuts that lead to it.

The data entries are in hexadecimal code, which most humans find a bit difficult
to read.

AFAIK only values may be hex but keys are all Ascii.
I am wondering if Vista has another systems file that has different reader
than Regedit.

It's encoded. It's not the ASCII for the required password. In general,
the Vista Registry does not store things as 8-bit characters.
