Connection failed errors

Amy

I am having problems with using Windows Mail for Vista and my gmail account
(I had been using Outlook on the old computer with gmail with no problem). It
appears I am still able to receive messages, although the error windows pop
up every time I go to open new mail, but I'm not able to send. I also use
gmail on my iPhone and have the imap settings for gmail set for that, but I
understand I need to enable POP for Windows Mail? I have gone into gmail and
enabled both POP and imap (which was already enabled) and applied settings,
saved, but it seems when I got back into settings in gmail the POP is not
enabled? Can I not enable both POP and imap at the same time; do I need to
enable the POP? These are my error messages:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Read: Re:', Account:
'Amy's Mail', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Header download for the '[Gmail]' folder did not complete. Could not select
'[Gmail]' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your folder list to
synchronize with the IMAP server. Account: 'Amy's Mail', Server:
'imap.gmail.com', Protocol: IMAP, Server Response: 'Unknown Mailbox: [Gmail]
(Failure)', Port: 993, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCCD2

RE : gmail POP3 protocol ( NOT IMAP )
You did not read the instructions as carefully as you thought. Your port #s
are all wrong.
SMTP port # is 465 , not 25.
You also said " the POP is not enabled ", perhaps you have a different set
of instructions.
Here is the link of gmail. Start from step one and follow the instructions
to the letter.
