Importing message folders from OE

Hi. My laptop died last week while I was on the road (still am). I
purchased a new machine from Best Buy and asked them to do a data transfer.
The old machine was an Averatec 3250 running XP SP2. The new machine is an
HP Verve running Vista Home Premium. I was using Outlook Express on the old
machine to manage email accounts from mac.com and msn.com. What they
transferred from Outlook Express on the old machine was 31 .dbx files, one
for each folder in both the accounts, and a .wab file with my contacts.
The .wab file transferred my contacts into Windows Mail, but I'm unable to
transfer either the account settings or the email folders themselves. It
seems to be looking for a .iaf file for the account info. I have no idea
what it's looking for with the folders/messages. Can anyone give me some
guidance? A particular item of interest to me is the transfer of
attachments. Many of the emails have attachments that I need to serve my
clients. When I finally figure out how to get these messages imported
(with your help), are the attachments part of the information saved in the
..dbx files? If not, where do I have to look in the old hard drive for
those? I have an efax account with hundreds of emails with attachments,
along with many pdfs and excel files in other e-mails, both that I'm sending
and receiving.

And if this message should find someone who is technically adept with
computers in general, a quick off-topic question. It appears that my hard
drive from the old machine is in good shape. Is there a way (hopefully not
too cumbersome or expensive) to turn an internal laptop hard drive into an
external USB hard drive that I can plug into the new machine so that I don't
have to take the internal drive to BestBuy every time in the next 6 months
when I think of some more data that I will need.

Thanks much in advance for your help.

Hello RayL,

I just read with interest, your message - it does seem like a dilema! I
do'nt have a laptop so I'm not sure about turning its internal hard drive
into an external USB one for the new machine - it does sound possible, and
others in the Community may know just how this is done. In the meantime, you
could go to Google and capsule your question - they have a lot of helpful
sites there - also, if it comes to downloading something, you may not have to
pay - there are sites offering "trial" periods - which means you get what you
need, use it, and STOP it before the trial perod runs out. Don't worry, the
answer is "out there"! I also have my own dilema about which I posted a
message tonight, asking anyone who knows, how do I transfer my email messages
from Windows Mail (where it was placed temporarily) back into my Yahoo Plus
account, so if you see it, and have any ideas, do let me know, I'd be most
grateful (of course, my problem is minor, in comparison to yours!). Good
luck, anyway, I know you'll get some help.

Regards,
Lea
