Importing Mail Messages from OE5 on XP computer to Outlook 2003 on Vista Computer

Hello,

I have purchased a new laptop that is running Vista and the MS Offic
2003 suite of products including Outlook 2003. I intend to use thi
computer in the place of a desktop computer running the MS Windows X
operating system and where we have been using OE6.

I have been trying to transfer the mail messages from the old compute
using the procedure outlined in the following MS website:

http://tinyurl.com/uaz68.

Briefly this procedure asks that you locate the Outlook Express folde
where the mail files are stored, copy the folder into a transfe
device, copy the folder onto the new computer, and use the Outlook 200
import function to bring the mail into Outlook express 2003.

I have successfully located the OE folder on the old computer an
transferred it to the new computer. My problem is that when I run th
import procedure from within Outlook 2003 on the new computer
consistently get the following message: 'The mail folder could not b
opened. If another application is using this file please close it an
try again.' This stops the import process and I'm stuck.

Does anyone know a way to fix this problem?

Thanks.

This newsgroup is for Outlook a part of Office.

You might want to repost this to the Outlook Express newsgroup

You have to make the OE msg store available in Windows Mail on the Vista PC,
before you can then export from Mail to Outlook (OL has to be configured)

There is no such thing as "Outlook Express 2003". Moreover, on Vista,
OutlookExpress doesn't exist. Instead you have Windows Mail.
I have successfully located the OE folder on the old computer and

Not that you have the contents of the OE data store on the Vista machine,
start WIndows Mail and import the data into Windows Mail. Use the
Maintenance tab on Tools>Options to import the DBX files. Once they're in
WM, you can then export the messages to Outlook with File>Export>Messages.
Since you didn't also transfer your Windows Address Book (WAB) file, you
won't have any contacts in Windows Mail to bring into Outlook.
