Import .DBX folders

My old computer went dead and I am trying to transfer the e-mails from the
old hard drive into my new computer. I was able to locate the Outlook Express
folder on my old hard drive but when I try to use Outlook's import feature I
get "The mail folder could not be opened. If another application is using
this file, please close it and try again." How can I get .dbx files into
Outlook?

By making the dbx folders available to either Outlook Express or Windows
Mail on your new PC first, then exporting to Outlook on the same PC

This is not a one-step process. You first must reconfigure your dbx-files
with either Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail on your new
computer before you can export from either application to Outlook.

I am trying to uncheck the read only attrribute in properties but it defaults
back to checked even though I am clicking apply before I close out.

Have you copied the DBX files to your hard drive first?
