I have imported an email .mdb folder from Outlook into Outlook Express. I can
see the folder in the OE list of folders, but it is empty! When viewed in
Outlook I can see all 99 emials that are there. Anyone got any clues please??

Neither Outlook nor OE can use mdb files AFAIK........presumably you
exported an email folder from your pst file in Outlook to Access?

Thanks - I saved the data from OE on another computer as .dbx onto a portable
memory, then transferred it to the other computer and saved it in 'My
Documents'. I have been trying to import it into OE, but the options provided
do not seem to allow importing from where I had the data! I managed to import
it into Outlook as a .mdb file. What next please?!

Do you still have access to the other machine? I would put a bet on that you
didn't save the file called Folders.dbx. OE needs that file to see the
folder in which the dbx files reside as an OE Message Store....

If you don't then there IS a way round, but it may be quite laborious,
depending on how many dbx files you have...

Thanks, Gordon. But I do have the Folders.dbx file on the second computer...
To explain further.... I have a .dbx file containing 99 emails on a memory
stick and also in My Documents. I want to import these into OE. When I am in
OE and use file>import>messages>Microsoft OE6>Import mail from an OE6 store
directory>brouse to the folder in My Documents and try to proceed, I get the
warning pop-up: "No messages can be found in this folder or another
application is running that has the required files open. Please select
another folder or try closing applications that may have files runnning" But
the only application running is OE which I can hardly close and proceed!
So I tried importing into Outlook and then exporting into OE. For some
reason now lost in my mind, I converted to .dbm (not sure now how...) and
managed to import into Outlook. I can actually read the emails there OK, so I
thought I was on the right lines. When I then exported to OE, the folder
appeared in my list of OE folders, so I thought I had cracked it. But there
were no emails in the folder! in other words the folder had moved from
Outlook to OE but the emails did not....... So I either try to crack this one
or go back to the original postion: how to import into OE from a .dbx folder
im My Documents or on a portable memory device....

That's because you don't have a file called folders.dbx in the same folder
as the file you are trying to import. OE needs that file to tell it that the
folder you are importing from is a message store.
there is a workaround.
Open OE and create a new folder with EXACTLY the same name as the one you
are trying to import. Open it, but do NOT put anything in it. Then go to
Tools-Options-Maintenance and locate the location of your mail store. Close
OE. Navigate to your message store in Windows Explorer and paste the file
that contains the emails in, into the folder store. When asked "do you want
to overwrite..." say yes. Re-open OE and your emails should appear.

Sorry, Gordon, but I could not get that towork - probably me rather than your
advice!
But the good news is that i achieved the task by going through Outlook
Exchange. So that's mission accomplished and me satisfied. Thanks for all
your interest and help.

Well, glad you got it sorted!
